Gaza’s al-Shifa Hospital Faces Crisis
"Introduction"
Hospital Crisis |
Electricity Shortage and Mass Burial:
The hospital director, Mohammad Abu Salmiya, mentioned that 179 bodies have been buried in the courtyard due to the lack of electricity for the morgues. Among the deceased are seven babies and 29 intensive care patients. The generator's fuel supply ran out, making it difficult for the hospital to function.
Israeli Forces' Surrounding Actions:
Israeli forces claim the hospital sits above tunnels and a command center used by Hamas fighters. But, Hamas denies this, stating that patients and displaced civilians are trapped, facing constant sniper and drone attacks. The UN estimates around 2,300 people are inside, unable to escape amid the fighting.

Appeal for Help:
Amidst the crisis, the Gaza Ministry of Health spokesperson, Ashraf al-Qudra, highlighted that an Israeli offer to move babies out of al-Shifa Hospital with portable incubators hasn't resulted in a concrete plan. The situation remains dire, with hospitals struggling to provide essential care.
International Concerns:
International organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO), express concern about the situation, emphasizing that hospitals should be safe havens and not under attack. The Israeli government denies a siege on the hospital, stating it provides escape routes, while medical workers reject this claim.
Casualty Numbers:
The Israeli assault on Gaza has resulted in a significant number of casualties, with more than 11,200 people, including over 4,600 children, reported dead.
